Welcome 2012! There is something special about a New Year. It is full of excitement, hope, expectation and a new beginning. There is resolve at the beginning of a new year. What have you resolved for 2012?
As I begin 2012 in a new role as your President, I am humbled and grateful for the trust you have placed in me. It is truly an honor to serve as your leader this year. And I hear excitement, hope and expectation in the air for a great 2012!
Just a little over four years ago, as Realtors we were entering turbulent waters in the industry. In 2008 I recall Peggy Slappey, my broker, saying “we will make it to the other side – it’s just a little further.” Little did we know it would be a major shift in the market and a rough year or two would turn into four or more years. Little did we know it was to be so challenging. But Congratulations, REALTORS, and industry leaders! We have survived and we are proudly still members of the National Association of REALTORS and Women’s Council of REALTORS! I applaud you!
Our theme for 2012 for the Georgia State Chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS is “Developing Leaders for Success,” so get ready to be successful. The 2012 Team is here for you. We will constantly remind you of our Mission Statement that, “WE ARE A NETWORK OF SUCCESSFUL REALTORS EMPOWERING WOMEN TO EXERCISE THEIR POTENTIAL AS ENTREPRENEURS AND INDUSTRY LEADERS.”
The Georgia State Chapter’s Purpose is to support local chapter excellence and the development of strong leaders for the Council, the profession and the community. In so doing we are a resource for the local chapters and we are a model for local chapter excellence, creating an environment that develops leadership skills. We will be the voice of Women’s Council of REALTORS in Georgia, leveraging our influence and expertise in the industry through relationships with GAR and other business women’s organizations.
To sum it up, The State Chapter is Educator, Communicator, Leadership Development and Liaison to the Industry.
Your 2012 Georgia State Chapter Team is committed to serving you, the local chapter members and leaders.
In “The Truth About Leadership” James Kouzes and Barry Posner describe what they call “10 Truths About Leadership.”
1. You make a difference – You must believe that you can have a positive impact on others.
2. Credibility is the foundation of leadership.
3. Values drive commitment.
4. Focusing on the future sets leaders apart.
5. You can’t do it alone.
6. Trust rules.
7. Challenge is the crucible for greatness.
8. You either lead by example or you don’t lead at all.
9. The best leaders are the best learners.
10. Leadership is an affair of the heart. Leaders are in love with their customers, constituents, clients and the mission they are serving.
Doesn’t this sound just like Women’s Council Leaders?”
John Maxwell in his “The 5 Levels of Leadership” book says, “Connecting is having the ability to identify with and relate to people in such a way that it increases your influence with them.” It is our goal to connect with our members in 2012.
The 2012 Georgia State Chapter Leadership Team has you in their heart! Together we will be “Developing Leaders for Success” in 2012. Are you ready?
Respectfully,
Sylvia Brush
2012 State Chapter President
